Coincidence? I Think Not.

Ask me anything, and my answer will probably be something along the lines of… “I don’t know” or “It’s up to you, you decide.” For example, “favorite color?”:

“I don’t know, does white count? Oh, and it depends on what the color is for… painting rooms? clothes? etc?”

“Favorite food?”:

“There are way too many foods out there to decide and pick just one!”

Anyway, you get my point, it’s pretty chaotic and I think after a while, people just may give up asking me questions. This is a result of my capability to not decide (just a nicer way of saying–I’m indecisive).  However, ask me, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and without hesitating, I will say, “A NEWS JOURNALIST.” (side note: the only other question that I can give a definite answer to is my favorite singers: Jimmy Needham and his brother David Needham… they are amazing!)

My “journey to journalism” thus far has been nothing like I’ve experienced before. So many opportunities and, I guess you can call them “signs?” have kept me pursuing this career all throughout high school. From getting the chance to write articles for a student led e-zine to simply coming across different references to journalism in very unexpected places, journalism has found its way into almost every aspect of my high school years. Now, to you, these opportunities and such may not seem so significant, but their perfect timing and relevance really amazes me, and that’s why I decided to start this blog. Its basically a personal log (I’m hoping to share with you) of all the out-of-the-blue blessings and miracles that keep/kept nudging me on and get me through my challenges and doubts.

“Whoa, wait a second, did you just say ‘doubts’?” Yep, trust me, even though I seem so sure that this is what I want to do, I have had my share of doubts. After all, there are millions if not billions of jobs out there, and really, the only reason I looked into this career in the first place is because people kept asking me the age old question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I couldn’t really decide (this shouldn’t be a surprise to you by now) so I just picked journalism because I love traveling and English has always been my favorite (and best) subject.  I felt that journalism (especially news journalism) could combine traveling and writing to equal my “dream job.” That’s not a really solid reason and foundation for making a lifelong occupational decision, but that’s where it all started, and since then, every time I question whether this is really the right career to pursue, I receive an opportunity or “sign” that, obviously, has kept me on this journey to date.  All these things which I, ironically, can’t really describe in words, have just been too much of a coincidence to just be a coincidence. So, I have DECIDED to “keep following my dream” and just see where this journey takes me 🙂
